Per utilizzare efficacemente la ricerca, i responsabili delle politiche devono confidare nella validità e affidabilità dei suoi risultati. Attualmente, però, i mezzi esistenti per assicurare pratiche etiche di ricerca e il mantenimento dell’integrità in tutta la gamma delle scienze non mediche risultano inadeguati. Ricercatori, revisori, regolatori e responsabili delle politiche si confrontano con codici di pratiche e regolamenti etici diversi e talvolta contrastanti, con le complessità della legislazione sulla protezione dei dati, con incoerenze nelle applicazioni dei regolamenti e con pressioni professionali e pratiche di ricerca in una pluralità di campi non medici.
Il progetto PRO-RES affronterà questi vincoli offrendo un quadro di riferimento completo, flessibile e duraturo, che copra lo spettro delle scienze non mediche e offra soluzioni pratiche a tutti gli stakeholder che rispetteranno i più alti standard di etica e integrità della ricerca. Questo quadro terrà conto di esempi precedenti di buon lavoro e di buona pratica e cercherà di fornire una serie di soluzioni pragmatiche basate sul lavoro precedente, creando forti legami con i progetti in corso.
PRO-RES è realizzato da un consorzio eterogeneo di 14 partner appartenenti a 10 paesi. Knowledge & Innovation collaborerà a tutte le fasi del processo e sarà impegnata in modo particolare nella consultazione dei diversi attori interessati alla definizione di un quadro di riferimento etico per la ricerca e nel garantire che tale quadro incorpori principi e pratiche della RRI (ricerca e innovazione responsabili), soprattutto per quanto riguarda la governance delle costellazioni degli attori coinvolti. Verrà prodotto un rapporto sulle implicazioni del quadro di riferimento in termini di RRI.

In the framework of PRO-RES (Promoting Ethics and Integrity in Non Medical Research – http://prores-project.eu/), on February 4 2020 in Brussels it was been held the “Ethics Matters” Conference. During this initiative, some of main issues of the relationships between ethics, non medical research disciplines and use of for policy and decision making evidence based have been discussed. On June 12, 2019 a workshop was held in Brussels, at the headquarters of KOWI, on “Ethical Frameworks and Responsible Research – Challenges to Science in a Changing World”, organized by K&I under the PRO-RES project. The meeting is part of a series of exchange initiatives between researchers of various disciplines and stakeholders aimed at developing a guidance framework for ethics and research integrity. The PRO-RES workshop on “Surveillance, privacy and covert research: current challenges to the research ethics and integrity”, organized by K&I, took place in Rome on April 11 2019, at the premise of Saperi&Co, La Sapienza University of Rome. In October, the K&I project team has concluded its work related to the creation of a stakeholders map. Such map is geared at identifying and listing relevant organisations and individuals to be involved in the subsequent activities, mainly with the aim of drawing the landscape of potential interlocutors for the forthcoming ethical guidance framework for non-medical sciences. On 22 and 23 May 2018, the Kick-off Meeting of the project “PROmoting integrity in the use of RESearch results in evidence-based policy: a focus on non-medical research (PRO-RES)” took place in Brussels.
