The online kick-off meeting of ENTRANCES project was held from 5 to 7 May 2020. Ricardo Garcia Mira, professor of environmental psychology at A Coruna University and coordinator of the project, introduced the meeting by presenting ENTRANCES main features. Moreover, several representatives of A Coruna University, members of the Project Scientific Advisory Board and representatives of policymaking intervened to present their greetings. Among them, Laura Martín Burillo, member of the Cabinet of the Vice-President of the Government of Spain, who underlined how the project can be useful also for the national policies of the energy transition. In the same session Manuela Conconi, INEA Project Officer and Gerd Schonwalder, RTD Policy Officer for the Social aspects of energy transition of the European Commission gave their speeches, along with Paul Baker, from the Secretariat of the Platform for Coal Regions in Transition.
Over subsequent sessions, the other contents and activities of the project were presented with a focus on the issue of the multidisciplinary approach adopted by the project – ENTRANCES includes socio-economic, socio-technical, socio-ecological, socio-cultural, socio-political, and socio-psychological aspects; a description of the 13 coal and carbon-intensive regions included in the study; and a discussion on the problem of the knowledge integration and scientific communication activities foreseen by the project. Despite the virtual nature of the meeting, more than 40 researchers participated over the three days. The scientific advisory board of the project actively attended the meeting as well.
