Water at the Heart of Climate Action (WHCA)

The project official website: Water at the Heart of Climate Action

The WHCA (Water at the Heart of Climate Action) is a regional project, with an objective of bringing systematic change that aims to accelerate and scale up water action to mitigate the impacts of water related risks and increase the climate resilience of affected communities in the five Nile Basin countries Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda. It contributes to the EW4All (Early Warnings for All) initiative, which aims to ensure universal protection from hazardous hydro-meteorological, climatological and related environmental events through life-saving multi-hazard early warning systems, anticipatory action and resilience efforts by the end of 2027, as called for by the UN Secretary General in 2022.

K&I is involved in the preparation and implementation of training Workshops on Gender Mainstreaming in End-to-End Early Warning Systems for Flood Forecasting and Integrated Flood Risk Management. This component includes first a regional workshop intended as a preparatory step towards later national-workshops in the WHCA countries on the issues addressed and with the methodologies used during the regional workshop.
